The Benefits of Crafting: I went to Thailand for FREE!
I feel incredibly blessed that my small part-time business as an independent consultant for Close To My Heart has afforded me this fully paid trip to Thailand for myself and a guest. If not for my love of crafting, creating and teaching others these fun DIY creations, I may not have ever had the opportunity to journey this far from home.
On January 28, 2018 – I arrived in Bangkok, Thailand, traveling from Upstate New York.
I chose to bring my son on the trip with me and upon arrival, we began our adventure. Today was a day of exploring Bangkok on our own. After taking a water taxi and checking out the flower market, we found the best tuk tuk driver… Pawnsuck. He took us to the Lucky Buddha, the Marble Temple, the Thai Factory, the Gem Factory and the Big Standing Palace and the Grand Palace. On the way back to the water taxi we stopped for hour long foot massages … awesome !!
January 30, 2018 – Today in Thailand we biked 12 1/2 miles. It started out in a very urban area. They drive on the left side of the road here. So turns and going to the left weren’t natural. We loaded our bikes on a boat and then continued the ride in a much quieter old jungle now more scarcely inhabited peninsula. Tonight we went to the Night Market before we leave Bangkok in the morning to go to Phuket. Another great opportunity to try great food, buy my elephant pants and enjoy this amazing city. Josh got a lesson on a new instrument in our hotel lobby while waiting for our taxi. #ctmhthailand
January 31, 2018 – Today was our day to travel from Bangkok Thailand to Phuket. It was a quick 1 hour flight. After settling in our room, we ventured out for food and just beyond the resort property line we found in Josh’s words “Thai Food Tent City” for authentic good food !!! We finished the day with strawberry daiquiri’s and pool side lounging.
February 1, 2018 – Today we spent the day at sea in Phang Nga Bay. Spectacular seascape. We had to wait for the low tide to enter the caves and make our way to the lagoon. Truly a hidden treasure! There is a 6 hour window between low tide and high tide taking the water level down 3 meters !! Our kayak guide maneuvered his way through the cave. In the lagoon we saw lizards, bats and wild monkeys. We were served an outstanding lunch and ended our day with a group ordering multiple dishes and sharing family style. Another great day!
February 2, 2018 – Today was a day of snorkeling, swimming and sightseeing starting in Koh Phi Phi. We took a speedboat to the Andaman Sea. Our first stop was Maya Bay… anyone know what movie was shot here in 2000? (hint: murder mystery) Pileh Lagoon, lunch at Phi Phi island and then Bamboo Island. We leave Phuket in the morning and head to Chaing Mai, our final destination before heading home.
February 3, 2018 – We flew from Phuket to Chaing Mai today on Smile Thai Airline. Once we settled in our new hotel, we went to check out the National Flower Festival.and then Night Market to grab a bite to eat.
February 4, 2018 – We were very busy on Chaing Mai today. We began our day with the elephants, ate lunch near an orchid and butterfly sanctuary, went to a jade factory, temple and finished our day in our own with pizza.
February 5, 2018 – Our last full day as tourists in Thailand. Tomorrow we begin to travel home. Josh and I took a guided bike ride through Chaing Mai this morning and then spent the rest of the day at the hotel pool. We will have dinner in a little bit and then pack.
What an amazing trip to take with my son, Josh!!
Over the past 13 days I flew 11 flights – 4 to get to Thailand and 4 to return plus 3 Thailand inter-country Bangkok, Phuket, Chaing Mai. I’m exhausted, but the happy version. I met so many amazing people including other consultants and their guests, Close To My Heart corporate members, local people in these awesome cities, excursion hosts, hotel and tourism reps. They all played a part in making this a memorable and outstanding experience.
