The Property Scoop: Wait… I Live on a GOLF COURSE?!

You seriously cannot make this stuff up.

🏌️ FORE! Apparently, Nobody Told Her! ⛳

Over my many years in property management, I've had the opportunity to manage a couple of communities with golf courses.

In fact, many years ago, we even tried to PURCHASE a golf course! Looking back, I'm thinking it's probably a good thing that deal didn't work out. 😂

Because let me tell you, HOAs and golf courses come with an entirely different collection of stories!

Now, here's something that might surprise you.

When you purchase a home on a golf course, there's a pretty good chance that, from time to time, a golf ball might actually land in your yard.

Or hit your house.

Or your deck.

Or your window.

SHOCKING, I know!

I mean, doesn't EVERY golfer hit the ball straight down the middle of the fairway? ⛳😂

Of course, as property managers, we occasionally had to field complaints about those pesky golf balls. Apparently, some homeowners were genuinely surprised that living along a golf course meant encountering the occasional wayward shot.

But nothing quite prepared me for one particular annual homeowners' meeting.

Picture this...

We're sitting in the annual meeting, surrounded by homeowners, discussing the usual community business.

And then, in the middle of the meeting, one homeowner makes an announcement.

An announcement that I will NEVER forget.

"I didn't know I lived on a golf course."

Wait.

WHAT?!

I'm sorry. Could you repeat that?

You didn't know you lived on a GOLF COURSE?!

Now, before you start thinking perhaps the golf course was hidden somewhere behind the homes, let me explain something.

This particular community had exactly TWO entrances.

TWO.

And BOTH entrances took you right past the golf course fairways.

Not a little glimpse of green grass off in the distance.

Actual. Golf. Course. Fairways.

You literally had to drive past the golf course to get to your house!

And presumably, you did that when you first looked at the property.

And again when you decided to buy it.

And again when you moved in.

And every single time you came home afterward.

Yet somehow...

SURPRISE! YOU LIVE ON A GOLF COURSE! 🏌️‍♀️

Now, I suppose anything is possible. Maybe she truly hadn't noticed.

But here's the part that really gets me.

Even IF that were true...

Even IF I had somehow purchased a home in a golf course community without

realizing there was a golf course...

I cannot imagine announcing that fact to an entire room full of my neighbors at the annual meeting!

Some things are probably better left unsaid. 😂

And THAT, my friends, is why property management is never, ever boring.

You can prepare an agenda, organize your financial reports, anticipate the difficult questions, and walk into an annual meeting thinking you're ready for just about anything.

And then someone opens their mouth.
